This beautiful wooden Free Play Box from Grapat provides a place within which a great variety of games and activities can take place. It becomes a framework for children’s play and exploration, a place that naturally sets limits and boundaries.
This box provides an isolated and enclosed area which helps to develop certain care and respect towards the action within it. A child’s game sometimes needs a container, an area which holds the action and that enables children to perceive their limits and understand space.
The box can become a sensorial game when filled with sand, flour, salt, rice, etc. or a place to build an imaginary small world.
Hand stamped on the base are images which evoke the four classical elements: earth, water, air and fire. These elements are an integral part of our human existence and connect us with nature.
The allegory to these elements can also be used as a game space or as an invitation to organise and classify.
Founded by husband and wife team, Casiana and Jordi, in the Pyrenean mountains of Catalunya, Grapat is a small family project that materialized from the journey of leaving the city to live in a more natural environment. Their motivation came from watching their young daughter play with the unstructured treasures that nature had to offer.
Inspired by the Waldorf pedagogy, Grapat's philosophy of natural, simple play is based on providing children with few basic items allowing them to create their own games and imaginary worlds.
Grapat is not only incredibly beautiful, but perfect for those wanting to start or expand their open-ended toy collection. Their popular loose parts range is proven to be incredibly versatile; from colour sorting and pattern matching to being used as kitchen play food and resources to teach math.
Ignite your child's imagination with Grapat.
